Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read.
Every year since 1982 the last week of September is BBW.
Banned Books Week was started in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries.
We hope to remind people that the ability to read, speak, think and express ourselves freely is a right, not a privilege. It’s important to recognize that book banning does exist in this day and age.
American Library in Kyiv invites its patrons to borrow some items from Banned Books Display. It's interesting to discover why The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn or Gone with the Wind are banned.
