Film Club on Friday, June 26

Film Club meeting at American Library last Friday was dedicated to traveling the world and finding your true inner self, as we watched "Eat, Pray, Love" (2010, USA). Based on an inspiring true story written by Elizabeth Gilbert, "Eat, Pray, Love" is a memoir about the soul-searching journey she took post-divorce, which was read and loved by millions.

Book of the Week: «Gardening: I can do it!»

This week we picked a book for young gardeners who are eager to tackle a wide range of tasks - from growing flowers, vegetables, and herbs to keeping the garden under control and pests at bay! Children can discover how to select tools, plant seeds, and enjoy flowers indoors as well as outdoors.

Book of the Week - "Basik Freud"

In Basik Freud, noted psychologist Michael Kahn shows that even in the age of psychopharmaceutical and cognitive therapy, Freud's major insights into the unconscious remain unsurprassed tools for understanding our behaviors, motivations, and emotions. Kahn presents key ideas such as the Oedipus complex, the repetition compulsion, guilt, anxiety, and defense mechanisms, along with recent research that has supported or expanded Freud's findings.

Science Slam in Libraries of “Window on America” Network - Final

Today American Library held the final of Science Slam Ukraine Contest - Award, which aims to promote Science, create a positive image of Ukrainian researchers, as well as Library’s reputation in the quality of intellectual center and engaging the youth.

1st Prize - Tamara Martsenyuk, National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", Sociology Department with research “Gender Sociology during Maidan – Women’s revolutionary roles”.

2nd Prize – Mykola Zaviriukha, Mykolayiv National Agrarian University, Department of Tractors and Agricultural Machinery, with research “Solar thermal collectors – pathway to energy independence”.

3rd Prize – Maryna Dvornyk, Kherson State University, Faculty of Psychology, with research “Delay but don’t waste”.

Film Club on June, 5

On Friday, June 5, American Library held a Film Club. This time we watched film "The Pianist" (2002) - historical drama co-produced and directed by Roman Polanski, scripted by Ronald Harwood, and starring Adrien Brody. "The Pianist" tells the story of a Polish Jew, a classical musician, who survived the Holocaust through stoicism and good luck.

Today American Library held a meeting with Lana Babij (Library of University of Connecticut, Reference Assistance). We learned that USA libraries are all about connecting students, faculty and other Library members with the information resources and services they need to improve their academic success and research.
