The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990, by President George H. W. Bush, and later amended with changes effective January 1, 2009.
The ADA is a wide-ranging civil rights law that prohibits, under certain circumstances, discrimination based on disability.
Scott Donahue's "Big People" sculptures were dedicated in 2009. The two 30-foot high stainless steel, fiberglass, bronze and concrete structures cap the ends of the pedestrian and bicycle bridge that crosses over Interstate 80 next to the Berkeley Marina. This is Berkeley's largest public art installation. The sculptures are visible from a mile away in both directions.
