On Tuesday, April 29, American Library held a seminar of the American Studies Institute of the US Embassy's course. During April 2014 a series of lectures are provided on topic: «Social Movements and Political Change». This time students learned about the march on Washington and the civil rights in the United States.

Book Choice - Arbor Day

In United States Arbor Day (from the Latin arbor, meaning tree) is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees. Celebrations are held as early as January and February in some southern states and as late as May in more northern locations. National Arbor Day is observed on the last Friday in April. On Wednesday, 23 April American Library held a presentation by Alexandru Fotea, Educational Marketing, Events and Academic Image at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi (Romania). Topic: "How do universities contribute to the socio-economic development of our regions". Speaker did research on how higher education institutions have contributed to the development of their surrounding environment for the past 900 years.

On Tuesday, April 22, American Library held a seminar of the American Studies Institute of the US Embassy's course. During April 2014 a series of lectures are provided on topic: «Social Movements and Political Change». This time students learned and discussed the topic of Orange Revolution and the State in Ukraine.

Have you ever thought what is the impact of the education and research activities performed daily by universities on the regional economies? What about the expenses made by the universities and their associated agents (students, visitors etc.)?Do they generate any effects on the regional economic circuit? We will discuss on how the mechanisms that universities develop at regional level and how it contributes to the process of socio-economic development.

April 16: "Attracting Media Attention for Your Venture"

On Wednesday, April 16 American Library, in cooperation with CRDF Global in Ukraine, held a web-conference with live broadcast from the U.S. Department of State, Washington D.C. “GIST TechConnect” initiative builds entrepreneurial ecosystems in 54 countries across the Europe, Middle East, Turkey, Asia and Africa by identifying, coaching, and funding the most promising technology entrepreneurs through its flagship competitions, startup acceleration services, online social media platform and interactive mentorship programs.

On Tuesday, April 15, American Library held a seminar of the American Studies Institute of the US Embassy's course. Book Choice - Cosmonautics Day

April 12 has been celebrated as Cosmonautics Day since 1961 when Yuri Gagarin became the first human being launched into outer space. 68 minutes spent by him in cosmos changed our life forever and opened the new era in mankind's history and development. The U.S. first launched a person into space with Alan Shepard's suborbital flight in Mercury-Redstone 3. Orbital flight was achieved by the United States when John Glenn's Mercury-Atlas 6 orbited the Earth on 20 February 1962.


Languages and Cultures: Between East and West

On Friday, April 11 American Library held a section of scientific conference “Languages and Cultures: Between East and West”. This conference is gathered for the third time under the arrangement of Omelian Pritsak Library, NaUKMA. During these years it turned out to be an international event for historians, philologists, cultural studies scholars, archeologists, ethnologists, philosophers, political science researchers from Ukraine and abroad.

During April 2014 a series of lectures are provided on topic: «Social Movements and Political Change». This time students learned on how social movements represent disadvantaged groups.


2014 Alumni Grants Program

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the 2014 Alumni Grants Program.

The program is intended to provide financial support to U.S. Government-funded exchange and training programs alumni toimplement projects that promote democratic advancement, civic participation and economic reform in Ukraine.

Alumni and recipients of all U.S. Government-funded exchange and training programs, including ECA, USAID, USDA and FEP, Department of Commerce SABIT trainings, as well as other target groups with an alumni connection are eligible to apply.

Applications will be accepted by April 25, 2014 and will be reviewed by a U.S. Embassy selection committee.
