The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990, by President George H. W. Bush, and later amended with changes effective January 1, 2009.
The ADA is a wide-ranging civil rights law that prohibits, under certain circumstances, discrimination based on disability.
Scott Donahue's "Big People" sculptures were dedicated in 2009. The two 30-foot high stainless steel, fiberglass, bronze and concrete structures cap the ends of the pedestrian and bicycle bridge that crosses over Interstate 80 next to the Berkeley Marina. This is Berkeley's largest public art installation. The sculptures are visible from a mile away in both directions.

The English Access Microscholarship Program (
The English Access Microscholarship Program (Access) provides a foundation of English language skills to talented 14–18 year-olds from disadvantaged sectors through after-school classes and intensive summer sessions. Access students gain an appreciation for American culture and democratic values, increase their ability to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of their countries, and gain the ability to compete for and participate in future U.S. exchange and study programs.
MAIN GOALS:
*Enable bright non-elite youth from underserved communities to gain proficiency in the English language and develop other communication skills.
*Promote better understanding of U.S. culture and society.
*Encourage appreciation of civic values through community service activities.
*Help students better prepare for educational and career opportunities that enable them to contribute to their societies’ development.
Since its inception in 2004, approximately 70,000 students in more than 85 countries have participated in the Access Program.
